Picking a weighted blanket is easier than it looks. The most common guideline is to choose a blanket that is about 10% of your body weight. If you land between two sizes, many people go with the lighter one, especially if they are new to weighted blankets.
A quick guide
- Under 100 lb (45 kg): 5–10 lb
- 100–130 lb (45–59 kg): 10–13 lb
- 130–160 lb (59–73 kg): 13–16 lb
- 160–200 lb (73–91 kg): 16–20 lb
- Over 200 lb (91 kg): 20 lb and up
Other things to think about
Temperature. If you run warm, look for a breathable knit instead of a bead-filled blanket. Our Weighted Knitted Wool Blanket gets its weight from the knit itself, so there are no beads to trap heat.
Size. A throw-size blanket is great for the sofa or one person, while a bed-size blanket lets two people share. If you want something you can wear, the SleepPod is a cozy wearable option.
Comfort first. The right blanket should feel like a gentle hug, not a burden. You should always be able to move it off easily. Weighted blankets are not recommended for infants, toddlers, or anyone who cannot remove the blanket on their own, and if you have health concerns it is worth checking with your doctor first.
